Creation of Haryana State on 01.11.1966 1st Battalion, Haryana Armed Police, Ambala City came into existence by converting of 36th Punjab Armed Police Battalion. The head quarter of this battalion is situated the east of District Police line, Ambala in 11 acres, 14 marlas land and is complete in itself in the areas of housing, sports grounds, halls, school, barracks, hospital, pool etc. This battalion was made permanent in April, 1970 by the Haryana Govt.

• To assist the district police in maintenance of law & order.
• To perform elections, law & order duties in the state as well as other states.
• Security:- to provide gunman/personal security officer to the VIP,s & threatened persons.
• Disaster management – natural calamities & manmade.
